Demonte Ziegler, an 18-year-old male, tragically lost his life on July 2, 2017, in Sugar Land, Texas. The incident occurred during a house party in the Greatwood Neighborhood near the Grand Parkway. According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, Ziegler was found dead from a gunshot wound inside the home, while another individual, 21-year-old Ira Donahue, was also shot and taken to the hospital.
Investigators believe that a verbal altercation between Ziegler and Donahue escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in the shooting.
The party, which had around 30 attendees, was held at a home on Stone Arbor Drive. When deputies arrived at the scene around 3 a.m., they found several teens fleeing the area. Sheriff Troy Nehls mentioned that about 12 people stayed behind and were being questioned as witnesses. Despite the investigation, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
In 2015, Ziegler had been arrested for bringing a gun onto the campus of Travis High School. However, this prior incident did not appear to be directly related to the circumstances of his death.
