Marlon Alexander Palencia Castaneda, a 33-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on March 21, 2014, in Sugar Land, Texas. He was fatally shot at close range in the chest during an altercation at Global Casework Manufacturing, a cabinet-making business located at 910 Industrial in the Sugar Land Business Park. The incident occurred just after 9 a.m., when two Hispanic males, one wearing an orange shirt and blue jeans and the other wearing a black shirt and blue jeans, stormed into the
warehouse area and began arguing with Castaneda. The argument escalated, leading to the shooting.
The suspects fled the scene in a light-colored Acura SUV, and the police launched an investigation to identify and apprehend them. Witnesses reported that the suspects approached Castaneda and engaged in a verbal altercation that quickly turned violent. Surveillance footage from the business park was reviewed, and the FBI released photographs of the suspects and the vehicle to aid in the investigation.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Sugar Land Police Department and Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers urged anyone with information to come forward. The investigation continued for several months, during which the police conducted interviews with witnesses and reviewed additional evidence.
Eventually, the case led to the arrest and conviction of one of the suspects, identified as Huver Oregon-Reyes. Oregon-Reyes was found guilty of murder in connection with Castaneda's death. The jury learned that Oregon-Reyes suspected Castaneda of having an affair with his wife, which was cited as a motive for the shooting. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the crime.
