Justin Taylor Gonzales, a 20-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from Dayton, Texas, tragically passed away on January 19, 2016, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. He was a graduate of Dayton High School, a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and worked as a chef. Justin enjoyed fishing, cooking, the outdoors, and helping others.
The cause of Justin's death was due to injuries sustained from being shot by William Rivera, an 18-year-old at the time, on March 13, 2022.
Rivera fired a weapon out of the window of a stolen vehicle, striking Justin. Despite efforts by paramedics, Justin succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
William Rivera was later convicted of Justin's murder in the 289th Juvenile District Court. He was certified to stand trial as an adult on October 22, 2022, and was sentenced to 40 years in prison on January 27, 2024. The Bexar County District Attorney emphasized the reckless behavior of Rivera and the severe pain caused to Justin's family.
