Juan Rodriguez, a 36-year-old man from Frisco, TX, was tragically shot and killed on August 1, 2015. As he lay dying in the breezeway of his apartment complex, he managed to tell neighbors that "Tym Pfeiffer shot me." This crucial piece of information led to the swift arrest of Pfeiffer, who was identified as Rodriguez's longtime friend.
Tymothy Pfeiffer, aged 34, was later convicted of capital murder in connection with Rodriguez's death.
The investigation revealed that Pfeiffer had planned a robbery, knowing that Rodriguez kept large sums of money in his apartment. Pfeiffer, along with two associates, drove from Farmers Branch to Rodriguez's apartment in Frisco, where he shot Rodriguez once in the chest, took his phone and wallet, and fled the scene.
Frisco police, with the help of the Dallas Police Department SWAT team, arrested Pfeiffer two days after the murder. Investigators used police reports, cell phone mapping software, and a recorded phone call between Pfeiffer and his brother to place him at the scene of the crime. Pfeiffer was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Additionally, Anthony Murphy, aged 32, of The Colony, was indicted on capital murder charges in connection with Rodriguez's death. Murphy's trial was scheduled for later that year.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Ashley Keil and Thomas Ashworth, with District Attorney Investigator Robin Laughon aiding in the investigation. Judge John Roach, Jr. presided over the case.
