On the morning of Sunday, March 16, 2025, Fresno police responded to reports of an unresponsive man lying on the sidewalk near Tulare and B Streets in southwest Fresno. Upon arrival, officers discovered 64-year-old Abraham Tiggs, a Black male who was part of the local unhoused community, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by emergency responders, Tiggs was pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage later revealed that the shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. the previous night, capturing Tiggs walking south on B Street toward Tulare Street before collapsing.
Following a thorough investigation, homicide detectives identified 38-year-old Adam Delacruz as the primary suspect in the shooting. On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a residence near the intersection of Tulare and B Streets, where Delacruz was taken into custody. During the search, detectives recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the homicide. Delacruz has been charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
In April 2025, Delacruz appeared before a judge and entered a not guilty plea to the charges. During this court appearance, his request for a new attorney was denied. The court has scheduled his next appearance for June 24, 2025. If convicted on all charges, Delacruz could face a sentence ranging from 50 years to life in prison.
