Enemencio “Mitch” DeLaRosa, a 35-year-old Hispanic male from San Angelo, was found just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, with multiple gunshot wounds near 9th Street and Chadbourne Street. Officers rendered aid and he was taken to Shannon Medical Center, then transferred to a San Antonio hospital, where he died days later; his obituary records his passing on September 25, 2025.
He had been born on February 5, 1990, and was widely known in his community by his nickname, “Mitch.”
San Angelo police identified 34-year-old Alan Helms as the suspect and arrested him the night of the shooting. Helms was initially booked into the Tom Green County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; after DeLaRosa's death, police said the case would be presented to a Tom Green County grand jury and noted charges could be upgraded in light of the fatality. Authorities publicly stated that DeLaRosa had suffered severe gunshot wounds to the facial area and that the investigation remained active as the case moved forward.
