In a case that has been described as one of the most violent in recent memory for the city, the life of 34-year-old Roland Matthew Sheppard of San Angelo, Texas, was brought to a brutal and tragic end. The grim details of his death began to surface on June 24, 2026, when the San Angelo Police Department launched a homicide investigation on the north side of the city.
The investigation was set in motion by an anonymous tip about a possible homicide in the 1400 block of Parker Street.
The initial tip led detectives to a dumpster in the 600 block of Baker Street. Although the dumpster had already been emptied by a commercial trash truck, investigators were able to track down the specific truck and what they found inside pointed to a violent crime: fresh, bloody clothing and a large piece of blood-stained carpet. This discovery prompted police to obtain a search warrant for the Parker Street residence where Sheppard lived with his 31-year-old live-in partner, Audrey Troncoso. At the home, detectives found evidence that a homicide had likely occurred on June 23rd and detained Troncoso.
As the investigation intensified, the search for Roland Matthew Sheppard's remains led authorities to the Republic Services landfill. There, amidst the refuse, investigators made the gruesome discovery of portions of Sheppard's body. During a subsequent interview with the Criminal Investigations Division, Audrey Troncoso confessed to the horrific crime. She admitted to shooting Sheppard in the face and stabbing him multiple times, which resulted in his death. In an attempt to hide her actions, she then dismembered his body. The investigation also revealed an accomplice. Troncoso's father, Mario Valdes-Troncoso, was arrested and charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence for his alleged role in helping his daughter conceal and dispose of Sheppard's remains. As the case proceeds, Audrey Troncoso is being held in the Tom Green County Jail on a $2 million bond, facing a murder charge. While authorities have confirmed the relationship between Sheppard and Troncoso, a motive for this exceptionally violent act has not yet been released as the investigation continues.
