Dementrius Orlando Collins, a 19-year-old Black male from Birmingham, was killed in a burst of gunfire early on June 5, 2023, in the city’s Kingston community on Roscoe Avenue. Police were sent to the 4600 block just after 12:50 a.m. after multiple ShotSpotter alerts and reports of shots fired, and when officers arrived they found Collins unresponsive in a yard with an apparent gunshot wound.
