On the night of August 28, 2022, Ke’Mon Latrelle Nord, a 20-year-old Black male from Bessemer, was caught in a burst of gunfire at the University Crossings apartment complex in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue Southwest in Birmingham. Police were sent there just before 9 p.m. after reports of shots fired, and when officers arrived they found two men down in the parking lot, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
