Bobby Abernathy II, also known as Bobby Abernathy Jr. or BJ, was fatally shot in Deerfield Beach, Florida, on April 10, 2024. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Extended Stay America Premier Suites, located at 1200 FAU Research Park Boulevard. Abernathy was found with a gunshot wound around 1:20 a.m..
Following the discovery, paramedics transported Abernathy to Broward Health North, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Homicide Unit took over the investigation into his death.
As of the current date, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Authorities have not released details about Abernathy’s age or place of residence due to Marsy’s Law, which protects the privacy of crime victims and their families.
In an effort to gather more information and lead to an arrest, the BSO is offering a reward of up to $10,000. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact BSO Homicide Unit Detective Kristina Luna or call Broward Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous and potentially receive the reward.
New video footage has also been released showing a car that may have been involved in the incident, which occurred on Southwest 11th Way near the hotel. This footage is part of the ongoing efforts to solve the case.
