Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, a 20-year-old African American male, known professionally as XXXTentacion, was tragically murdered on June 18, 2018, in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Onfroy was leaving RIVA Motorsports, an upscale seller of motorcycles and watercraft, when he was ambushed by two armed men. The attackers blocked his vehicle with an SUV, and after a brief struggle, they fatally shot Onfroy and fled the scene with a Louis Vuitton bag containing $50,000 in cash.
The incident occurred in broad daylight, around 3:56 p.m., and was captured on surveillance cameras.
The investigation into Onfroy's murder quickly led to the arrest of four suspects: Michael Boatwright, Trayvon Newsome, Dedrick Williams, and Robert Allen. All four men were charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. Michael Boatwright, identified as the shooter, was 22 years old at the time of the crime. Trayvon Newsome, also 22, was accused of being one of the gunmen. Dedrick Williams, 22, was the driver of the SUV, and Robert Allen, 22, was involved in the planning and execution of the robbery.
The legal proceedings were extensive and garnered significant media attention. In August 2022, Robert Allen pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and robbery with a firearm in a plea deal, agreeing to testify against his co-defendants. The trial for Boatwright, Newsome, and Williams concluded in March 2023, with all three being found guilty of first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm. On April 6, 2023, Boatwright was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 30 years. Newsome and Williams were each sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Robert Allen received a reduced sentence of seven years in prison, with credit for time served, and 20 years of probation following his release. He was released early from prison on October 26, 2023.
