Serdjy Hyppolite, a 23-year-old from Sunrise, Florida, was involved in a fatal altercation that began at the Marathon Gas Station located at 5551 W. Hallandale Beach Boulevard. On January 7, 2024, around 2 a.m., Hyppolite got into an argument with two individuals at the gas station. Following the altercation, Hyppolite and the two suspects left the gas station in their respective vehicles.

The incident escalated when Hyppolite's car crashed into a pile of tires at 2496 Southwest 57th Avenue in West Park. A second vehicle, identified as a silver 2016-17 Honda Accord Sport, pulled up alongside Hyppolite's car. The occupants of both vehicles exited, and a heated argument ensued. The confrontation turned violent, with one of the suspects repeatedly punching Hyppolite and eventually shooting him.

Hyppolite was found suffering from a gunshot wound by deputies and fire rescue personnel. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries two days later, on January 9, 2024.

The Broward Sheriff's Office released surveillance footage of the incident in an effort to identify the suspects. This footage showed the moments leading up to the shooting, including the crash and the altercation. Thanks to several leads generated from the public after the video's release, detectives were able to identify one of the suspects.

Darrell Gerald Rose, 29, of Miramar, was arrested on January 31, 2024, and faces charges of manslaughter and strong-arm robbery. However, the second suspect involved in the shooting remains at large, and detectives are continuing their search. The public is urged to provide any information regarding the second suspect by contacting the authorities at 954-321-4325 or through anonymous tips to Broward County Crime Stoppers.
