On December 25, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Pompano Beach, Florida, resulting in the deaths of two male victims, including Brandon McNair. The incident took place at a convenience store located in the area of Northwest Fourth Street and 27 Avenue, west of South Powerline Road.
Deputies from the Broward Sheriff's Office responded to the scene shortly after 7:20 p.m. following reports of a large crowd and cars blocking roadways due to an ongoing street party nearby.
Upon arrival, they found Brandon McNair and another victim, Quaavon Ellis, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Paramedics with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported both victims to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The preliminary investigation revealed that an altercation had occurred between the shooter and the two victims, leading to shots being fired inside the store.
A suspect was detained at the scene for questioning, and as of the initial report, detectives did not believe any other shooters were involved in the incident. However, the suspect's identity and the ages of the victims were not disclosed due to Marcy’s Law.
The case was under investigation by homicide detectives, who planned to present their findings to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office for review. The community was encouraged to provide any information about the case to the BSO Homicide Unit or Broward County Crime Stoppers.
