On the evening of November 2, 2024, 28-year-old Osmin Jose Herrera Lemus was fatally shot at the SalviMex Restaurant & Bar, located at 14118 South Vermont Avenue near the border of Los Angeles and Gardena, California. The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. According to reports, both the victim and the suspect were regular patrons of the establishment. While seated at different tables, the suspect, described as a male between 35 to 40 years old, approached Lemus and, without provocation, fired a single shot into his chest. The suspect then fled the scene in an unknown vehicle. Emergency responders pronounced Lemus dead at the scene at 8:13 p.m.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner later identified the victim as Osmin Herrera Lemus, confirming the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest and ruling it a homicide. Further investigations revealed that the SalviMex Restaurant & Bar was operating an illegal casino on its premises. Authorities have not disclosed whether this illicit activity is connected to the motive behind the shooting.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Lemus's death.
