The event occurred just before 8 p.m. in the parking lot of the Curry House Restaurant and Bar, located near Ashlan and West Avenues. Both Harmanpreet and the suspect, 28-year-old Lovepreet Singh, hailed from Modesto and were attending a celebration at the restaurant.
According to witness accounts, an altercation transpired between the two men during the event. The situation escalated when Lovepreet allegedly drew a semi-automatic handgun and shot Harmanpreet in the upper body. As Lovepreet fled the scene, he reportedly fired at another individual but missed.
