On September 22, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Fresno police responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 4400 block of East Floradora Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 40-year-old Ricardo Martinez Olguin lying beside his bicycle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Despite being conscious and able to inform officers that he had been shot by an unknown individual on a bicycle, Olguin succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Community Regional Medical
Center.
In the days following the incident, Olguin's family and friends held vigils to honor his memory, expressing their grief and confusion over the senseless act. Family members described Olguin, affectionately known as "Junior," as a vibrant individual who brought joy to those around him. He was a devoted father to four children, and his unexpected death left a significant void in their lives.
The Fresno Police Department launched an intensive investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator. Through diligent detective work, they identified 41-year-old Ronald Zavala Ebanez as the suspect. On October 3, 2024, Ebanez was arrested and charged with murder and assault with a firearm. He is currently being held at the Fresno County Jail. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting or the nature of the relationship, if any, between Olguin and Ebanez.
The arrest brought a measure of relief to Olguin's grieving family, who had been seeking justice for his untimely death. They continue to mourn his loss and are focused on supporting his children through this difficult time.
