On August 4, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., 30-year-old Nora Villanueva Campanor was fatally shot near East Avenue H and Challenger Way in Lancaster, California. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported that the suspect, believed to be an estranged partner, confronted Campanor and another man at a Lancaster residence shortly before the shooting. During this initial encounter, the suspect fired a shot into the man's home; however, no injuries were reported.
Following this confrontation, Campanor and the suspect left the residence together in her vehicle. While stopped near East Avenue H and Challenger Way, they engaged in a verbal altercation. Both individuals exited the vehicle, at which point the suspect produced a firearm and shot Campanor, resulting in her death at the scene. The suspect then fled in Campanor's vehicle.
Subsequently, the suspect drove to a family member's home in Palmdale, where he attempted suicide inside the vehicle. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Campanor's death. Authorities have not released the suspect's identity, and no charges have been filed at this time.
