On February 9, 2024, 57-year-old Terrance Lockett was found deceased on a bike path near the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County near Gardena. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene around 7:55 a.m.
Initial reports indicated that Lockett had suffered a gunshot wound, prompting authorities to treat the case as a homicide.
However, following a thorough investigation and toxicology screening, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was the combined effects of cocaine and methamphetamine, ruling the manner of death as accidental.
Prior to his death, Lockett had a history of legal issues. In 2007, he was arrested in Los Angeles County for possession of a narcotic controlled substance. Later, in February 2018, he faced charges including conspiracy to commit a crime, burglary, grand theft auto or firearm, and possession of drug paraphernalia in Gardena. In May 2018, he was arrested again in Hawthorne for resisting or obstructing a peace officer, contempt of court, robbery, and burglary.
As of now, there have been no reports of arrests or suspects connected to Lockett's death. The initial homicide investigation was closed following the medical examiner's determination of an accidental overdose. Authorities have not indicated any foul play or involvement of other individuals in the incident.
