In the summer of 2014, a young Black / African American man's life was cut short on a Bridgeport, Connecticut street. Ryan Hernandez, a 21-year-old male, was fatally shot in broad daylight on Sunday, August 10, 2014. The incident, which marked the city's sixth homicide of the year, unfolded near the intersection of Park Avenue and Olive Street following a heated confrontation. Hernandez was shot in the chest and rushed to St. Vincent's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
