Kareem Morey Sr., a 38-year-old Black/African American man, was fatally shot after a confrontation at the Waterbury housing complex where he lived, a property known locally as "Brick City." The violence unfolded late on January 17, 2014, near 17 Chestnut Avenue. Although the shooting occurred that Friday night, contemporary reporting states that Morey was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital and died from his injuries early the following morning, January 18.
