On April 7, 2010, 28-year-old Abigail Patrice Andrews vanished from Fort St. John, British Columbia. At the time of her disappearance, she was three months pregnant and excitedly preparing for the arrival of her first child. Just days before she went missing, she and her parents had been shopping for baby supplies. On the evening she was last seen, around 6:00 PM, Abigail left her basement apartment on 99th Avenue, telling a neighbour she was going to visit a male friend who lived nearby.
An hour later, she spoke with her mother on the phone, promising to call or text when she returned home, a message that never came. She was last seen walking down 94th Avenue, wearing black pants, a white shirt, a dark vest, a black mid-length trench coat, and black sequined flats. She was carrying a purple Guess purse and her pink BlackBerry Pearl cellphone.
When two days passed with no word from Abigail, which was highly out of character, her concerned parents reported her missing on April 9, 2010. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police began an investigation, which soon involved its Serious Crime Unit. The family's alarm grew with the knowledge of her pregnancy, as both Abigail and her unborn child were potentially at risk. Early in the investigation, authorities, along with search and rescue teams, conducted a search of the North Peace landfill just outside of Fort St. John, but this did not yield any significant findings. Her family and friends made desperate efforts to keep her case in the public eye, including putting up large billboards on the Alaska Highway.
As time went on, the investigation into Abigail's disappearance shifted, with police beginning to treat the case as a possible homicide. In 2013, the RCMP released a re-enactment video in the hopes of generating new leads. At that time, they also revealed that they had identified a suspect in her disappearance, though they have never publicly released the individual's name. Investigators have stated their belief that the suspect has spoken to others about what happened to Abigail and have urged those individuals to come forward with any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem. Despite these efforts and numerous searches conducted based on public tips, Abigail's case remains unsolved.
