In the early winter of 2021, a sense of unease settled over the community of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, with the disappearance of 77-year-old Frances Gazeley. A woman with blue eyes and grey hair, standing at 5'6", she was a familiar presence in her community. The last confirmed sighting of Frances was on Regina Avenue in Weyburn on either December 6th or 7th of that year. Her family last spoke with her on December 6, 2021, and after that, communication ceased. Concern for her wellbeing was immediate and profound, particularly as it was known that she required medication which she did not have with her. At the time she went missing, it is believed she was wearing a winter coat, purple or blue in colour, and a pair of short black boots. As days turned into weeks, a significant investigation and search effort was launched by the Weyburn Police Service, which was soon joined by the Saskatchewan RCMP's major crimes unit. While authorities could not initially confirm if her disappearance was suspicious, the lack of contact was deeply troubling. The search for Frances expanded from the city of Weyburn to the vast rural landscapes of southern Saskatchewan, focusing on areas including Ceylon, Minton, Bengough, and Colgate. Multiple appeals were made to the public, encouraging residents and landowners to meticulously check their properties, fields, and any outbuildings that may have been inaccessible during the winter months for any sign of Frances or the clothing she was thought to be wearing. This request was extended specifically to hunters who would be in remote areas not frequently travelled by others. Years have passed since Frances Gazeley was last seen, yet the investigation into her disappearance remains active and ongoing. Authorities have continued to follow up on leads, including a tip in 2023 that prompted a thorough search of a property near Ceylon, though unfortunately, it did not lead to any breakthroughs. The family of Frances has expressed their immense gratitude for the extensive efforts of both law enforcement and local residents, while also sharing the deep pain of not knowing what happened to their mother and grandmother. Police have periodically renewed their public appeals for information, highlighting the unwavering determination to bring some form of closure to her loved ones. The case remains a poignant mystery; a 77-year-old woman vanished from her community, leaving behind unanswered questions and a family waiting for news.
