In the early summer of 1992, a 32-year-old mother named Kathleen Dale Wattley vanished from the streets of Vancouver, British Columbia. She was last seen on or around June 13th of that year, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance have left her loved ones with unanswered questions for decades. Kathleen, who was also known by the nickname Kathy and sometimes used the names Karen, Banks, Malone, or Summerfield, was a resident of Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighborhood. She was a mother to two young children, who were left behind without explanation. It has been reported that it was entirely out of character for Kathleen to abandon her children, a fact that has always been a painful and perplexing part of her story for those who knew her.

Kathleen was described as a Black female with a thin build, standing at approximately 5'2" and weighing around 110 to 115 pounds. She had brown eyes and black, shoulder-length wavy hair. A noticeable scar was present near her mouth. When she was last seen, she was reportedly wearing a yellow blouse and a black miniskirt. Before settling in Vancouver, Kathleen had lived in various places, including New York State, California, Washington State, and Alberta. Her life had not been without its struggles. Reports indicate that she was known to be a drug user and involved in sex trade work in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. Just two months prior to her disappearance, she had separated from her common-law spouse of ten years.

The years leading up to Kathleen's disappearance were marked by turmoil. In May of 1987, she was the victim of a shooting at her apartment in an incident related to cocaine. She was shot in the mouth but survived the attack. This violent event underscored the dangerous environment she was sometimes a part of. The investigation into her disappearance has been complex, with authorities suspecting foul play. Her case has been linked to several other cases of missing women from the Vancouver area, raising grim possibilities about her fate. The overview of Kathleen's case is a heartbreaking narrative of a woman who, despite facing significant personal challenges, was a mother who would not have willingly left her children. Her disappearance is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by many women in marginalized communities and the enduring pain of families left behind with no answers.
