Pedro Espinoza, aged 59, tragically lost his life on February 23, 2020, in Adelanto, California. On that fateful day, deputies responded to a shooting incident at the 11500 block of Chamberlaine Way. Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel discovered three individuals who had been shot: Pedro Espinoza, Rosa Mendoza (also 59), and a 33-year-old man identified as a relative of Mendoza and Espinoza.
Rosa Mendoza was pronounced dead at the scene, while Pedro Espinoza and the 33-year-old man were rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, Pedro Espinoza succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while the 33-year-old man survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify Gerson Sagastume, a 27-year-old resident of Adelanto, as the primary suspect. Sagastume was known to the victims, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was eventually located hiding in an abandoned residence in Adelanto. Following his arrest, Sagastume was transported to the Victor Valley Sheriff's Station, where he was interviewed by homicide investigators. At the conclusion of the interview, Sagastume was booked at the High Desert Detention Center on charges of murder under Penal Code 187.
