Ravinder Pal Singh, aged 59, tragically lost his life on September 9, 2018, in Fresno, California. The incident occurred when Singh and his wife, Rajbir Kaur, were shot while watching television in their home. The double homicide was discovered by their daughter, Jaideep Kaur, who found her parents unresponsive with gunshot wounds. The suspect, Darshan Dhanjan, 71, was identified as the perpetrator.
Dhanjan, who was the father-in-law of Singh and Kaur, was reportedly living in the same household. The motive behind the murders was linked to ongoing familial disputes and tensions within the household.
Following the incident, Dhanjan was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and criminal threats. The preliminary hearing revealed that Dhanjan had been increasingly argumentative with his in-laws, which escalated to the fatal shooting. Evidence presented in court included surveillance footage from a camera installed in the living room, which captured the moment Dhanjan approached Singh and Kaur and shot them. Additionally, a credit card receipt for a shooting range visit the day before the murders was found, further implicating Dhanjan.
The legal proceedings culminated in Dhanjan pleading guilty to all charges. On August 16, 2024, he was sentenced to 77 years to life in prison for the murders of Ravinder Pal Singh and Rajbir Kaur, as well as for making criminal threats against another family member.
