Juan Carlos Muñoz Jr., an 18-year-old from National City, California, tragically lost his life on October 11, 2015, in a gang-related shooting. On that fateful evening, Muñoz was behind the wheel of his car with a 17-year-old passenger when they were ambushed. The assailants, mistaking Muñoz and his companion for rival gang members, followed them in a car and eventually pulled in front of their vehicle near the intersection of Prospect and East 16th streets.
