Frank "Bomp" Bompensiero, a notorious figure in the Los Angeles crime family, met a violent end on February 10, 1977, in San Diego, California. At the age of 71, Bompensiero was shot to death at close range with a silenced .22 caliber handgun while walking home after using a pay phone outside an Arco Station in the Pacific Beach neighborhood. His death marked the culmination of a long and tumultuous career in organized crime, characterized by numerous arrests and a reputation for ruthlessness.
