Billy Alceus was a 22-year-old man living in Margate when he was fatally shot in Deerfield Beach, Florida, on the night of July 10, 2022. Although initial information provided for the case listed him as 26, contemporary reporting based on the Broward Sheriff’s Office identified him as 22.
At approximately 11 p.m. that Sunday night, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 500 block of Northwest 42nd Court after receiving reports that gunshots had been fired.
When deputies reached the area, they discovered Alceus lying in a parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue personnel provided emergency assistance and transported him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries were fatal and he was pronounced dead.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting were not publicly explained in the initial investigation. Authorities did not identify a motive, disclose whether Alceus had been involved in an argument or confrontation beforehand, or announce that investigators had determined why he had been targeted. Online athletic records show him playing multiple positions, including wide receiver, running back and defensive back, and list him as a member of several area programs during his high school years. By the time of his death, authorities identified him as a Margate resident even though the fatal shooting occurred several miles away in Deerfield Beach.
