The investigation revealed that Isidro Zavala had been planning the murders for some time. He arrived at the house dressed in black and carrying a bag containing a semi-automatic handgun, extra ammunition, duct tape, and cutting shears. Police also discovered two emotional letters written in Spanish, one of which was addressed to the Zavala's oldest son, Emmanuel, who was not present during the killings. These letters have not been publicly released.
