On the night of September 4, 2016, police in Kansas City, Missouri, launched a homicide investigation following a violent incident near the intersection of 41st Street and Bellefontaine Avenue. Officers were dispatched to the residential neighborhood around 9:15 p.m. after receiving reports of gunshots fired in the area. Upon arrival, first responders discovered the body of 28-year-old Desmond Antonyo Jenkins, a male resident of Kansas City who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
