Anthony Souvenir, a 27-year-old man, was fatally shot inside a Walgreens store in Miramar, Florida, on February 3, 2025. The incident occurred after an argument between Souvenir and another customer, 28-year-old Jaime Taylor. According to reports, Souvenir was at the store with his girlfriend and their baby when he confronted Taylor, accusing him of "looking too hard" at his girlfriend. The exchange escalated, and both men were armed at the time.
Taylor allegedly fired first, striking Souvenir, who attempted to retaliate but collapsed. He was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in extremely critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
Following the shooting, Taylor fled the scene but later surrendered to police. He was arrested on February 3 and charged with first-degree murder. During a court appearance on February 4, a judge ruled that Taylor be held without bond. However, months later, the Broward State Attorney’s Office dropped all charges against Taylor, ruling the incident a "justifiable homicide." Taylor claimed he acted in self-defense, stating that Souvenir had indicated he was also armed and had reached for his weapon before Taylor fired.
Souvenir’s family has expressed outrage over the decision to clear Taylor of all charges, calling it a miscarriage of justice. His mother, Linda, described the ruling as reliving her son's death all over again. The family has demanded the release of surveillance footage from inside the Walgreens, believing it will provide crucial evidence regarding the events leading up to the shooting. Despite the case being closed, Souvenir’s parents continue to push for transparency and accountability, insisting that justice has not been served.
