On the afternoon of January 13, 2025, 18-year-old African American male Demetrious Braud of Beaumont, Texas, was fatally shot inside a residence located at 410 Hydrangea Avenue in Orange, Texas. Officers from the City of Orange Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 3:44 p.m., where they discovered Braud deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Judge Hershel Stagner Jr.
arrived at the scene and ordered an autopsy to be conducted.
During the investigation, authorities identified a 13-year-old African American male from Orange as the suspect in the shooting. A directive to apprehend was obtained, and the juvenile was taken into custody without incident at 7:30 a.m. on January 14, 2025. Due to the suspect's age, his name has not been released.
Demetrious Braud was born on September 15, 2006, in Beaumont, Texas, to Demetrius Braud and Charletha Rodgers. He was described as a beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend, known for his outgoing and adventurous spirit. Braud's funeral services were held on January 25, 2025, at Harvest for Lost Souls in Beaumont, followed by interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Port Arthur, Texas.
The case remains under investigation by the City of Orange Police Department.
