On the night of November 4, 2025, a verbal altercation at an apartment complex in Orange, Texas, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 36-year-old Dupri Booker. The incident occurred at approximately 9:33 p.m. at the Velma Jeter Apartments located at 2500 Allie Payne Road. Responding to a disturbance call that was updated to a firearm discharge while they were en route, officers with the Orange Police Department arrived at a chaotic scene.
As law enforcement approached
the apartment complex, they observed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. A felony traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and one of the occupants was identified as 28-year-old Octaviun Rhodes of Orange. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered a. 300 blackout AR-style rifle, which Rhodes was reportedly in possession of. Other officers who proceeded to the apartment complex found Dupri Booker deceased near Building No. 5 from multiple gunshot wounds.
Witnesses at the scene identified Rhodes as the shooter and described the vehicle he fled in. Following his arrest, Rhodes was taken to the Orange Police Department for questioning. During the interview with detectives, he allegedly admitted to discharging his firearm in the direction of an apartment following a verbal dispute with Booker. Rhodes has since been charged with first-degree murder and is being held at the Orange County Jail. A judge has denied his bond. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
