In the early morning hours of Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, the body of 37-year-old Anthony Lee Carlos of Fullerton was discovered in Stanton, California. Deputies were dispatched to the vicinity of Main and Pacific streets around 5:30 a.m. following reports of a possible deceased person. Upon arrival, they found Carlos, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The investigation into the death of the male victim led Orange County Sheriff's Department homicide investigators to an illegal
gambling operation located at a residence near Cerritos and Flower avenues. While at this location, authorities detained approximately 50 individuals. It was noted that six of these individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants unrelated to the homicide.
Through their investigation, detectives identified 43-year-old Jeffrey Lynn Clayton, also of Fullerton, as the primary suspect. Investigators believe that Carlos and Clayton were acquainted with each other prior to the fatal incident. Clayton was taken into custody on the evening of Tuesday, April 7, on suspicion of homicide and was subsequently booked into the Orange County Jail.
Following his arrest, Jeffrey Lynn Clayton was charged with murder. The charges were enhanced with allegations of discharging a gun causing death and committing a crime while out on bail. Clayton has a criminal history that includes offenses such as vehicle theft, drug possession, and identity theft. At the time of the incident, he was out on bail for a pending case involving being a felon in possession of body armor and possession of a hard drug with prior convictions.
