A prearranged car trade in Alvin, Texas, took a fatal turn on the night of April 2, 2026, ending the life of 18-year-old Emad Siddiqui of Sugar Land. The teenager had met with 23-year-old Eric Olvera of Alvin to swap vehicles when a dispute broke out between them at a convenience store. The disagreement escalated, and Siddiqui was shot.
Following the shooting, a friend who was with Siddiqui drove about a mile north from the convenience store along State Highway 35 before pulling over to
call for help. Alvin police officers responded to the 3100 block of the highway, where they discovered Siddiqui in the backseat of the car with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was ultimately pronounced dead.
Investigators quickly identified Eric Olvera as the suspect in the shooting. A warrant for his arrest on a murder charge was issued, and police warned that he should be considered armed and dangerous. After a search that lasted for several days, Olvera was taken into custody without incident on the evening of Monday, April 6, 2026. He was subsequently held in jail without bond.
