In the winter of 2022, a bright and promising life was tragically cut short in Bessemer, Alabama. Janiyah Simmons, a 15-year-old female, was fatally shot on the evening of Monday, February 14th. A freshman at Wenonah High School, she was known as an honor student who was also in the gifted program. Her mother described her as a young woman full of love and joy, with a passion for doing hair, cooking, and fashion. She had an outgoing personality and was deeply loved by her family and friends.
