On September 17, 2023, Johnny Walker, a 44-year-old hairstylist from Gainesville, Florida, was found dead in the parking lot of Cynthia Chestnut Park, located at 2315 SE 35th St. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene after a 911 caller reported hearing several gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, police found Walker lying motionless and he was later pronounced dead at the UF Health Trauma Center.
