Jason Scott Mullins, Sr., a 50-year-old resident of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away on February 2, 2023. Born on January 30, 1973, in Roanoke, Virginia, Mullins was a graduate of Northside High School in 1991 and later attended Virginia Tech.
Mullins' death was the result of a shooting incident that occurred behind a pub in St. Augustine. The St. Augustine Police Department reported that he was shot and killed, just three days after celebrating his 50th birthday.
An autopsy revealed that Mullins suffered ten distinct bullet wounds.
The investigation led to the arrest of 34-year-old Vance Wilkins, who is facing charges of second-degree murder in connection with Mullins’ death. Surveillance video played a crucial role in identifying Wilkins, as it showed him driving a black Toyota pickup truck leaving the scene. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown, but it is reported that Mullins and Wilkins had exchanged words inside and behind the pub before the incident.
Mullins is remembered by his family and friends as a fun-loving and full-of-life individual. His mother, Nancy Martin, expressed her shock and grief over the loss, highlighting the disbelief and bereavement felt by many who knew him. Mullins is survived by his mother, his children Madeleine Mullins and Jason S. Mullins, Jr., his sister Joleigh, his nephew Eric, and his niece Maigan.
The community and those who knew Mullins have been deeply affected by his death. The owner of The Pub on Anastasia, where the incident occurred, described the difficulty in processing the loss. Mullins' funeral was held in St. Augustine, and in lieu of flowers, his family requested donations to the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine.
