On April 15, 2023, at approximately 3:00 p.m., 33-year-old Ricardo Vivar was fatally shot in the 10000 block of Fern Avenue, near Harry Dotson Park in Stanton, California. Orange County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a shooting and discovered Vivar and another man with multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where Vivar succumbed to his injuries.
Vivar, a father of five, was well-known in the community, having lived in the area for over 30 years. His family described him as a joyful individual who was always smiling and kind to everyone. His sister, Erica Vivar, expressed the family's devastation, stating, "Losing somebody the way my brother left, it's really painful."
The second victim, identified as Vivar's cousin, survived the attack and was reported to be recovering in the hospital. Family members fear the shooting may have been gang-related, although Vivar himself was not believed to be involved in any gang activities. Erica mentioned concerns about a local group attempting to make a name for themselves, suggesting they might be responsible for the shooting.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspect or suspects remain unidentified. The Orange County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the case, urging anyone with information to come forward. In the meantime, Vivar's family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses, seeking support from the community during this difficult time.
A visitation for Vivar was held on May 19, 2023, followed by a funeral service on May 20, 2023, at St. Philip Benizi Church in Fullerton, California. He was laid to rest at Westminster Memorial Park.
