On January 17, 2024, 18-year-old Aydin Torres was tragically killed in a shooting at a residence in the 700 block of Steele Road in Alvin, Texas. The incident, which occurred around 8:00 PM, also resulted in the death of 17-year-old Kalvin Carrasco and left another individual critically injured. A distressed individual alerted the Alvin Police Department to the scene, where officers discovered the two deceased victims and the injured person, who was subsequently transported to a nearby
hospital.
In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible. Initial reports indicated that at least four suspects fled the scene following the gunfire. Subsequent developments in the case led to multiple arrests, including that of a juvenile suspect. The investigation revealed that the incident was a home invasion that escalated into a deadly shooting, resulting in the deaths of Torres and Carrasco, and injuries to another resident.
The community of Alvin was deeply affected by the loss of Torres, who was remembered as a lifelong resident with a vibrant personality. Born on March 30, 2005, in Houston, Texas, he graduated from Alvin High School and had recently begun working for Sesco Co. Known for his sense of humor and love for making others laugh, Aydin was cherished by his family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Jazmin Torres, grandmother, Elma Torres, siblings, and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on January 23, 2024, at Emmanuel Worship Center in Alvin, followed by interment at Oak Park Cemetery.
The investigation into the deaths of Torres and Carrasco highlighted the issue of gun violence in the community. Authorities continued to pursue leads to bring all responsible parties to justice, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in solving such crimes. The loss of two young lives served as a somber reminder of the devastating impact of violence on families and communities.
