On February 14, 2023, Daniel White, a 54-year-old owner of Lewisville Pawn Shop in Lewisville, Texas, was fatally shot during an attempted robbery. White had been a dedicated member of the community, working at the pawn shop since he was 16 years old.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. when three armed individuals entered the store. During the confrontation, one of the assailants shot White in the chest.
Despite his injuries, White managed to call 911 but later succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.
The suspects fled the scene in a red Ford Escape SUV, which was later determined to have been stolen from a deceased individual in Dallas.
In the weeks following the incident, law enforcement officials arrested three individuals in connection with the murder. On February 25, 2023, 18-year-old JaTevon Marquise Johnson was apprehended in Dallas and charged with capital murder.
Subsequently, 17-year-old Denyrion Keyshaun Skinner surrendered to authorities on March 7, 2023, followed by his brother, 19-year-old Damonta Jerone Skinner, on March 9, 2023. Both were charged with murder and held on bonds of $250,000 and pending arraignment, respectively.
The arrests brought some relief to White's grieving family and the local community, who remembered him as a compassionate individual dedicated to helping others. His wife, Yolanda, and other family members expressed their gratitude for the swift action of law enforcement and the support from the community during this difficult time.
