On July 5, 2017, Delon Agee, a 41-year-old resident of Fresno, California, was shot multiple times at an apartment complex on East Jensen Avenue. Agee succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. He was unarmed at the time of the attack, and authorities have stated that he had no gang affiliations, suggesting that the motive for the shooting might not have been related to gang activity.
The suspect, Ibn Lugman Haqq, 21, was arrested in connection to Agee's murder just days later.
However, while being questioned at the Fresno Police Headquarters, Haqq managed to initiate a physical altercation with the detectives and subsequently escaped custody. Despite efforts by law enforcement to apprehend him, Haqq remained on the run for several days after his escape. He was last seen scaling a wall behind the apartment complex where the shooting took place. The Fresno Police Department cautioned that Haqq should be considered "armed and dangerous" due to his history with firearms, which also included a high-speed chase with police in 2015.
Haqq's escape from custody and his status as a fugitive complicated the investigation, prompting a public appeal for assistance. A reward of $2,000 was offered for information leading to his arrest, and local Crime Stoppers continued to solicit tips from the community. The suspect's evasion of authorities added urgency to the case, as he posed a continued threat to public safety in the Fresno area. Despite a lengthy search, it took several days for law enforcement to locate and apprehend Haqq, who was ultimately charged with both the murder of Delon Agee and the assault on detectives during his escape.
