On a September day in 1966, two-year-old Diane Cecile Mary Prevost was with her family at Grundy Lake Provincial Park in Ontario, a place they frequented for camping trips. The family was by the water; her father, Bernard, was fishing on a dock while her mother, Claire, was with her other siblings looking for frogs along the shore. Diane, who had a fear of the water, was playing in the sand nearby. She expressed that she wanted to go back to their campsite, which was about 500 feet away, to be with her grandparents. Her father told her he would take her as soon as he untangled his fishing line. However, in the brief moments that his attention was diverted, Diane vanished. When her father turned back, the little girl was gone. An immediate and frantic search by her family proved fruitless, and after about an hour, they contacted the Ontario Provincial Police. A massive search effort was launched, involving police, military personnel, search dogs, and divers who scoured the park and the lake for four weeks. Despite the extensive search, no trace of Diane was ever found. The search dogs were able to follow her scent for a short distance before it abruptly stopped, leading investigators to suspect she may have been taken and put into a vehicle. Diane's parents pleaded with the police to close the park gates, fearing she had been abducted, but their request was not granted. The family has always believed that Diane was taken by someone, as her fear of the water made the theory of her wandering into the lake unlikely. Over the many decades that have passed, the Prevost family has never given up hope of finding answers about what happened to their daughter. They have continued to keep her case in the public eye, commissioning age-progressed sketches of what Diane might look like as an adult. Her father, Bernard, passed away without ever knowing his daughter's fate, a sorrow he carried until his death. The family has received tips over the years, including from individuals who believed they might be Diane, but DNA testing has unfortunately ruled out these possibilities. The disappearance of Diane Prevost remains an unsolved case, a painful mystery that has haunted her family and the community for over half a century. Her loved ones continue their quest for the truth, holding onto the hope that someone, somewhere, has the information that will finally bring them the closure they have sought for so long.
