On August 24, 2016, the Irvine Police Department responded to a distress call from a residence in the Turtle Rock Community of Irvine, California. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of 27-year-old Ryan Cj Yau and his 64-year-old mother, Polly Chao Yau, both deceased from gunshot wounds. The preliminary investigation indicated that Ryan had shot his mother before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide.
