According to reports, Anderson was involved in an argument with Radcliffe Buttler, a former client who accused Anderson of stealing a Range Rover from him.

Radcliffe Buttler, also 47, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm during a felony. Buttler claimed that Anderson owed him money for the vehicle, but those who knew Anderson disputed this claim. Surveillance footage captured the moments following the shooting, showing Buttler walking through the parking lot before being tackled by a witness who held him until police arrived. The gun used in the shooting was reported stolen from Boynton Beach during a car burglary.
