Lorenzo Junior Bias, a 39-year-old Black man from Orange, Texas, tragically died on February 11, 2022, from a gunshot wound. Bias was found at a residence on Schley Avenue in Orange, suffering from the injury, and was later pronounced dead at CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. The incident occurred around 2:40 p.m., and Bias was transported to the hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries at approximately 3:35 p.m.
The suspect in the case, Horace Morris
Lassien, a 66-year-old Black man, initially fled the scene but was later taken into custody by investigators. Lassien was identified as the shooter and was charged with murder. The case went to trial, and in June 2023, Lassien was found guilty of fatally shooting Bias. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison in August 2023 by Judge Courtney Arkeen in the 128th District Court. Lassien faces a sentence of five to 99 years or life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
The investigation was conducted by the Detective Division of the Orange Police Department, and the case drew significant attention from the local community.
