On March 23, 2023, a tragic shooting occurred at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Southeast 11th Avenue in Pompano Beach, Florida, resulting in the deaths of two men, one of whom was identified as Joshua Abdiel Moise, aged 23.
Moise was shot and killed outside the apartment building of his girlfriend, Bianca Garcia. According to Garcia, she heard back-to-back gunshots just before 11 a.m. and immediately ran to look for Moise.
She found him and his friend lying on the ground, both having been shot. Garcia described the horrific scene, stating that Moise had been shot in the face and was holding a banana in his hand when she tried to help him.
Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots, with some describing the sound as intermittent pops. One resident, Lisa Binger, recalled hearing the shots and initially thinking they might be fireworks, but quickly realized they were gunshots. Another neighbor, Mike D'Angelo, described the scene similarly, noting that he saw deputies tackle and detain a man near the area where the shooting occurred.
The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) responded quickly to the scene, with deputies and SWAT teams arriving promptly. However, their swift response was not enough to save Moise or his friend. The area was contained, and authorities assured the public that there was no ongoing threat.
As of the investigation's status at the time, no arrests had been confirmed, although two people were detained for questioning. The BSO urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact Broward County Crime Stoppers, offering a reward of up to $5,000 for anonymous tips.
Garcia expressed her grief and the need for justice, stating that Moise was not harming anyone and that his death was senseless. The incident has left the family and friends of the victims seeking answers and justice.
Additionally, it was reported that sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, Moise's car had been shot 14 times, although investigators had not yet confirmed whether this incident was connected to the fatal shooting.
