On November 13, 2024, Jose Medina, 39, and his wife, Rachael Martinez, 31, were fatally shot while seated in their vehicle near the San Diego County Courthouse. The couple had arrived for a restraining order hearing against Christopher Farrell, 26, with whom Martinez had a prior dating relationship. Martinez had previously accused Farrell of domestic violence, including false imprisonment and sexual assault, leading to his arrest and termination from his security guard position.
