On April 14, 2024, at approximately 1:51 a.m., 38-year-old Gilberto Gutierrez was fatally shot outside Ewell's Bar, located at the intersection of Shaw and Marks Avenues in Fresno, California. According to the Fresno Police Department, Gutierrez attempted to defuse a verbal altercation involving his friend and another group when the situation escalated into a physical confrontation. During the melee, 26-year-old Domonique Jones allegedly produced a handgun and shot Gutierrez.
Emergency responders transported him to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation that included the review of surveillance footage, authorities arrested Jones on April 19, 2024. She was charged with one count of murder and an enhancement for the personal and intentional discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury. Jones pleaded not guilty during her arraignment and was held on $1.5 million bail. Subsequently, she posted bail and was released from custody pending trial.
