In the early spring of 2015, a family's life was irrevocably changed by the sudden and mysterious disappearance of a loved one. On the evening of March 10, 2015, 31-year-old Cuong Phi Tu, a man also known by the names Charles or Charlie, was seen for the last time in Edmonton, Alberta. He was leaving an electronics store located at 10133 34th Avenue at around 10 p.m. that Tuesday night. At the time he went missing, Cuong was described as being five feet two inches tall and weighing 110 pounds. When last seen, he was wearing black track pants, a matching black track-style jacket, and white running shoes. His family reported him missing, initiating a search that would soon uncover troubling evidence.

The initial hope for Cuong's safe return quickly began to fade. The day after he was last seen, on the morning of March 12, the vehicle he had been driving was discovered abandoned west of Edmonton. It was his black 2013 Dodge Ram truck, but it was found completely burned, a discovery that immediately escalated the concern for his safety. The Edmonton Police Service promptly launched an investigation into his disappearance, and due to the condition in which the truck was found, they suspected from early on that foul play was involved in his case.

As the investigation progressed, the Edmonton Police Service's homicide unit became involved, signaling the gravity of the situation. Investigators shared that they believed Cuong was involved in high-risk activities, which they considered a possible factor in his disappearance. It was also noted that he had previously faced a charge related to a grow-op, though that charge was later stayed. In their efforts to find answers, police made public appeals, asking residents in and around the greater Edmonton area, particularly those in rural areas west of the city, to search their properties for anything that might seem out of place or unusual. The case remains a distressing mystery, centering on the unexplained disappearance of a man whose vehicle was found destroyed shortly after he was last seen, leaving his family with unanswered questions and a community searching for clues.
